Implementation of EUDAP Project (European Drug Addiction Prevention) at a population level: the Eudap 2 Project

Head of the project: Dr. Fabrizio Faggiano, Piedmont Centre for Drug Addiction Epidemiology – OED (Turin, Italy), Doc. PhDr. Michal Miovský, Ph.D. (leader of the Czech partner team)

Project partners: ISG (Austria); De Sleutel (Belgium); EDEX (Spain); Pyxida (Greece); Stockholm Centre for Public Health/Tobacco Prevention (Sweden); Gregor Burkhart (EMCDDA, Portugal); Dept of Clinical and Experimental Medicine - Avogadro University – Novara (Italy); Dept of Internal Medicine and Public Health - University of L’Aquila; Charles University in Prague, Centre for Addictology (Czech Republic); Department of Toxicology - Poznan University of Medical Sciences (Poland)

The main conclusions of the final report were: Unplugged works, a least in the short term. But it seems to work better: a) for alcohol and cannabis than for smoking, b) for higher frequent use than for sporadic users, and c) for boys than for girls. Moreover, it highlighted the fact that: i) there were major differences between centres (a North-South gradient) that seems to be explained by the intensity and typology of the interventions involving the control schools; ii) there was a lack of evidence concerning any extra intervention (parents, peers), probably because of the low ability to detect weak effects; iii) the follow-up at 6 months was based on a very short period of observation and a longer follow-up was needed in order to test the stability over time of the results (for further details, see Faggiano 2008). The report addressed a further recommendation about the teacher's manual. The monitoring of the process indicated the need for improvement of this material, and also the need for new materials for students. (Faggiano & Zunino, 2010).
